Music magazine front cover analysis

Production Log 8

In today's productive lesson we carried on with our magazine analysis!! I managed to finish the whole Rolling Stone analysis and apart of the Q analysis and have yet to do the Vibe analysis! I found this task very helpful as I have gained new and helpful knowlage in the analysis of magazines.

Production Log 7

In today's lesson we started on our Film poster analysis research to prepare for the making of our magazines. This is really helpful due to getting a feel for analysising magazines and gaining knowlage on what should be in a magazine when we start to make them. The front covers I chose to start analysising was Rolling Stones, Vibe and Q. These are all well known music magazines which contain all of the features needed in a magazine and are good examples I can gain insperation of for mine. I started to analyse Rolling Stones, and have so far done the 'masthead' analysis and have yet to do the rest.

Production Log 6

In today's lesson I made my blog look more near, tidy and organised so I can find my work easily. I added various differant labels for further tidiness and also added descriptions under content such as my PowerPoint and pictures to give an explanation of what I did and why I did it.

This will help me layout my blog in a creative way and know exactly what is expected.

Production Log 5

In todays lesson I completely and successfully finished 'Haydon Daily' for my preliminary task. I  also completed evaluation for this task aswell. All I had to do in today's lesson to finish was do the rest of the contents page in which I had to add more pictures and fade the haydon stag to make the piece appear more modern. The evaluation had to be 500 words, mine was 574 words. in my evaluation I included what I did, and the reason for my choices. I also evaluated what I thought went well and what I could have done to improve which will help me when I start to do the real task.

Preliminary Task Draft

Draft

Before I started to create my magazine on InDesign, first I created a draft sketch on paper to give me an idea of layout to create my magazine. My finished product actually looks nothing like what I planned for it to look like due to picking up on a few improvments on the way.

Preliminary Task

These are JPEG images of my finished magazine I have created for the Preliminary Task.

Preliminary Task Evaluation

For this task I am going to evaluate my contents page and front cover of my school magazine ‘Haydon Daily’ in which I created on InDesign which I am quite familiar with. For my front cover I chose a mid-shot of a Sixth Former sitting down in formal clothing to represent the smart, formal characteristics for Haydon and do set an example to students who the magazine is targeted at, she is sat in a well-known spot in the Sixth Form Centre which people who are at Haydon can instantly recognise.  The font I have used is the font which is typically used in the Haydon logo and also in documents and leaflets of Haydon which is ‘Tw Cen MT Condensed’ so students and teachers can see it and instantly associate it with Haydon as it is recognisable. I have chosen to include a circle which includes some of the things which will be inside the magazine to give people a rough idea to what they are going to read and can judge if it interests them or not, the circle is person which matches the detail on the chair the sixth former is sitting on. Furthermore, I have included 2 cell lines on either side of the page to give people another clue as to what is inside. The typical Haydon stag is also in the corner to make it clear that the magazine is indeed a Haydon one and to show that it is a proud school.

For the contents page, I have decided to include a grey background with an orange/yellow text to state ‘Contents’ and ‘Haydon Daily’ due to these both being two contrasting monochrome colours which will stand out against each other and are also seen about n the Haydon Media posters. I have also included contents page numbers to be big and bold with blue text to convey where the page numbers are indicating them to so it is very clear what is going to be inside. The pictures I have used are of Sixth Form students as it is a useful opportunity to use as a headline due to it being relatable and because in reality, new sixth form students have arrived. I have also included pictures which include the building site of the new gym to highlight real life events to make the magazine appear more realistic to viewers and truthful.

The good thing about my magazine is that I have made use of my skills through this task which includes design and colour. I like how I made some features transparent to make it appear more original and unique. I believe that I have met the criteria for the preliminary task and have successfully created a school magazine however there are many things I could have done different. For example for the front page I feel I could have made it much more busy and added a few more elements such as extra cell lines to jazz it up a bit, however I included less to keep it simple. I also feel that I could have added various amounts of social platforms such as a twitter and facebook link or a barcode to scan to gain access to apps to make the magazine appear more current. When it comes to completing the real task, I will take these improvements into consideration and use all the skills I have used in this task.

Production Log 3

I'm today's lesson we carried on with our magazines.

I started on a contents page, including a navy background to include the schools traditional colours and also tried out differant fonts and colours. I've typed the contents page headings in and any more txt that will be seen on an everyday contents page. I also had to go out and take more pictures for the contents page.

Production Log 2

In today's lesson, I partnered up with friend to take pictures for my school magazine which is called 'Haydon Daily'. I found this task incredibly fun while we had to go around the school and take both close up, and wide shots of each other for the cover and contents page. I also took various amounts of pictures of the school buildings and different departments so this gave opportunity to make up differant contents page headings related the pictures.

I then transferred the high quality pictures to the computer and imported them into InDesign which is the software I am using to create the magazine. My magazine is progressing very well with a masthead and subheadings already in place.

Production Log

3rd of September 2014

In today's lesson we created a draft for a magazine in which is made for the school and is aimed at kids in Haydon School. We first sketched out a plan for the front cover of the magazine, including a masthead, large image and subheadings. I then went on to sketch out a contents page. These will both soon be scanned so it can be viewed on the computer. I then went on the computer to create a blog in which will hold all my work for AS Media. I now have to go out and take pictures for content on my magazine front cover and content page.

Preliminary Task Design

This powerpoint started as a good way to get all of my ideas down and record any content I have put in or thought about putting into my magazine. I have posted this to present on my blog to convey my thought process and steps to complete my completed magazine.
